50-Mile Pilgrimage & Blessing of Sacred Art by Master Santeros of Ranchos de Taos
To the KOAT News Team,
I am reaching out to share a powerful moment of faith and tradition from this year’s pilgrimage to Chimayó.
We are Angelo L. Romero and Cindy A. Miera y Romero, Master Santero artists based in Ranchos de Taos, NM. To honor our cultural heritage and the completion of a major collaborative sacred work, we completed a 50-mile journey on foot, walking from Ranchos de Taos through Peñasco to reach El Santuario de Chimayó.
Carried with us was a large-scale, hand-carved piece created from reclaimed historic timber and inlaid with semi-precious stones. Upon our arrival, a priest performed a rare and moving public blessing of the artwork directly in the doorway of the Santuario, witnessed by the gathered pilgrims.
This video captures that moment—a testament to the enduring Santero traditions of Northern New Mexico and the physical devotion of the pilgrimage. We believe your viewers would appreciate seeing this intersection of local art and spiritual history.
