Blakehurst Residents Complete 150,000 Steps During Pump It for Parkinson’s

With the Oriole Bird & Poe cheering them on, residents and staff of Blakehurst senior living community in Towson completed an 8-hour marathon where they completed 150,000 steps to support those living with Parkinson’s disease.
Participants in last Thursday’s “Pump It for Parkinson’s” signed up for 15-minute increments on cardio equipment located in Blakehurst’s Fitness Center to reach their steps goal, helping to raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease and how exercise can be critical to easing the symptoms people experience.
Parkinson's is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer's disease, according to the Parkinson’s Foundation. More than 25,250 people in Maryland are living with Parkinson's disease, with more than 4,000 identified in Baltimore County alone, according to Maryland Department of Health data (2018–2023).
