These photos tell Evelyn’s story. She is our bright, funny, fearless 7 year old who truly lights up every room she walks into. Everyone calls her the “main character” because she has the biggest personality and a way of making people smile wherever she goes. During a yearly physical and ADHD evaluation, her blood pressure was found to be unusually high, which led to more testing and the discovery of coarctation of the aorta, a congenital heart defect (CHD) that had gone undetected for her entire life. What started as an evaluation for one concern ended up uncovering a life threatening heart condition. Diagnosed in February, Evelyn has faced every appointment, test, and challenge with incredible strength and courage. She had a failed stent heart catheterization procedure, an open heart surgery and underwent several anesthesia procedures all before April of this year. Sharing her journey is about raising awareness for CHD, the importance of checking blood pressure in children, and showing just how resilient and inspiring heart warriors can be.
